For the second year in a row the Mauritian/Rodriguan/Seychellois community in Victoria showcased its rich, diverse and colourful culture on a big scale! Organised by the "Cultural Historical Association of Mauritians & Rodriguans in Victoria " [C.H.A.R.M. Vic], La Faya Festival 2005 proved a huge success. Thousands of people of Mauritian, Rodriguan and Seychellois background and others from the wider community visited "Federation Square" in Melbourne on Sunday 17 April 2005 to learn and appreciate the cultural diversity of these small Indian Ocean islands.
Live entertainment was provided on the main stage by a number of well known artists from these islands. There were performances of traditional dances and songs, exotic food and drinks catered for by Le Bon Café and Le Cocotier, face painting and other activities for the kids at a Kids Corner, a Health Corner providing general information, massages and more, and for the very first time, to celebrate National Youth Week, the La Faya Idol 2005 Final was on the programme.
Many viewed an exhibition exploring the history of the community's migration and settlement in Victoria, an artist display, a reading corner and historical photos.
Various Mauritian, Rodriguan and Seychellois social and cultural groups and clubs displayed aspects of their social, community and educational activities in Melbourne.
